It is the way we think anyway, the human thought process is largely metaphorical.

A metaphor is a word or phrase typically used to describe one thing but unexpectedly used to describe something different. Metaphors make language interesting and help create imagery. They also make us aware of connections that we may not have thought of before. “He was drowning in paperwork” is a metaphor that makes a connection between having to deal with a lot of paperwork and drowning in water.

The conflict between human law and natural law is a conflict between metaphor and reality.


Metaphors help convey thoughts by connecting them to the experiences that shape us. Language doesn't need to precisely reflect reality but should resonate with our lived experiences and facilitate meaningful communication. Even when we don't share the same perceptions, metaphors allow us to bridge gaps in understanding and maintain conversations.
